Some of you read Kristen Lamb, who writes a blog about writing. It’s extremely popular and usually very helpful. But her latest post was a digression – an extended piece about being a size 10/12 and why she feels fat:

I am healthy, have beautiful skin and hair. I have enough energy to power a small city and am never sick, but I am still a size 10-12 and 170 pounds.

No Non-Sense Noodleless Chicken Soup

I assure you- noodleless chicken soup is delicious!  I learned this recipe through my ma who learned it from my nan.There is nothing better than coming home on a cold winter day to a warm bowl of soup. The best part about this soup is that it not only pacified my hunger pains, it fed my soul! When sick or under the weather this soup has brightened my day. It’s almost as if it wraps itself around you and  gives you a warm hug. Thus it should be shared, so I hope you can make some for yourself and whomever you wish to show some delicious love.

Here are the basics and what you’ll need for this recipe. Remember this is a guideline, try whatever you want in term of ingredients. Cooking is experimentation at it’s finest. Off you go! Happy Eating!  Let me know how it goes! If you have any questions just ask!

What You Need
Medium – Large Size Pot
Small Pot
1 Ts Olive Oil
1 Ts Minced Garlic
1 Medium Chopped Onion
1/8th Medium Sliced Cabbage
3-4 Chopped Whole Carrots
1.5 L Chicken Broth (I used Irresistibles Bio Organic Chicken Broth)
1.5 L H2O
Spices to taste. Sea Salt, Pepper, Rosemary, All Seasoning, Garlic, Garlic and More Garlic :)
1 Can Green Peas
1 Can of Chickpeas
8 Chicken Drumsticks
1 Large Purple Sweet Potato (if not purple whatever sweet potato you can get your hands on)

500 mL Butternut Squash Soup (I used Campbell’s Gardennay Butternut Squash Pre-made Soup, you can also puree your own BNS)
2 ts Montreal Steak Spice

Optional Dumplings
1.5 C Unbleached flour
3/4 C cornmeal
1/2 C H2O

Now that you know what you need, here is how to get it done.

What To Do
Bring Large Pot up to Medium Heat.
Add: Olive Oil, Chopped Onion, Cabbage, Carrots, and Minced Garlic, sauté few mins.
Add: Chicken Broth & H2O, bring to boil.

In Small Pot.
Add: Butternut Squash Soup, Montreal Steak Spice
Bring to boil.
Once boiling, add to large pot.

Add Peas & Chickpeas to boiling pot.
Add Chicken Drumsticks.Continue boiling.
Add Potato. Continue boiling. Cover.

Chicken is cooked when it pulls away from the end of the bone.
Once stove is off you may debone your chicken or .. not.

Optional Dumplings …that I suggest you make- yummy!
Mix flour, cornmeal and water with fork until manageable with hands.
Roll into small balls and drop into centre of boiling pot. If you don’t keep water boiling you may find that dumplings stick to bottom, so keep that boil rolling! Helps them to cook quicker as well.

It’s so easy to over indulge these days, especially with busy schedules and our growing working hours, time for exercise and eating right can become a chore to our over worked, sleepy selves.

Which is why it is so important to kick your will power into high gear and attack your lack motivation for a better lifestyle. Exercise and eating right will not only create a cycle that keeps you going, it will truly make you feel GOOD; and when you feel good, make way for all the feel good vibes to enter your everyday life.

You can do it! Use Oscar’s images for what they were meant to do, let them motivate you to be healthy- McDonalds fries? Who needs those to survive!

Make No Mistake- Blunders Build You Better

Don’t be ridiculous. True perfection rarely exists. Even our own ideas of what perfection is don’t match up with what someone else believes perfection to be. Theres no universal definition of perfect; so why do so many of us strive to be or pretend to be?

Don’t worry if you have a pile of mistakes behind you- step on ‘em and let them lift you to your next destination in self-growth

People make mistakes. Committing blunders goes hand in hand with being human; and when we make those errors the only way to turn the not so desirable situation into a valuable tool is to do what  most of us really don’t like to; admit the fault in question.

This doesn’t mean blaming someone else either. If it’s your mistake, own up to it. The quicker you do this the faster you can make positive changes!

The key to building a better you when mistakes are made is simple. Learn from them – do not harbor them.

After acknowledging the mistake made, we can move forward to understand where things went wrong, and learn where to go next. Considerably easier said than done, especially since there’s a massive stigma surrounding failure in our society. It must be because declaring our inadequacies opens us up for reflection, making us feel vulnerable, so we shy away from doing anything that makes us feel this way. On top of it often we are paired alongside our shortcomings. Some believe if you make a mistake you are a mistake or if you have failed,  you are a failure which is unfair and quite absurd.

So lets challenge this frame of mind and choose to rise above and beyond our failures, not by ignoring them and letting shame consume us,  or even worse by blaming others. Instead, metaphorically speaking, stare your mistakes in the face and say “I see you and you’re not going to get the best of me.” In turn you’ll be the one gaining a personal upper hand.

Use what you’ve learned as a stepping stone to improve yourself; after all some of the worlds greatest inventions and findings took many mistakes and failures to come across. Mistakes may not bring you the results that you hoped for, but they will show what not to do or what to change.

So make no mistake, blunders build you better!

Smile, I dare you.

Tell me. How often do you stroll down the sidewalk seeing nothing but frowns? Or ride in a train car full of people who look lost in their thoughts, seemingly without an ounce of joy upon their face. It’s as if smiling these days has become taboo. Or at least it feels like that. Sometimes I even find myself in that mode. Why are there so many frowns or looks of discontent- I mean are people serious unhappy or is it just me?

It’s as if being happy is a chore. Either people in general are just unhappy or there is a mix up going on, in fact I’m quite sure a mix up has occurred. Has our perception of “happiness” been askew? I think so. It’s not really our fault per say either, though fairy tale stories and made up movies are the culprit. Providing people with unrealistic fluff, which confuses us with regards to the expectations we have for our own lives.

Here is a comparison between the Cinderella fantasy story and real life…

Our lives drifts along with normal things happening. Some ups, some downs, but nothing to go down in history about. Nothing so fantastic or terrible that it’ll be told for a thousand years. “But because we grew up surrounded by big dramatic story arcs in books and movies, we think our lives are supposed to be filled with huge ups and downs! So people pretend there is drama where there is none.” That’s why people invent fights. That’s why we’re drawn to sports. That’s why we act like everything that happens to us is such a big deal. We’re trying to make our life into a fairy tale. – Derek Sivers on Kurt Vonnegut explains drama

Notice how generally people are along the line of content? It’s practically a choice to be happy all the time.

According to an article I read in Harvard Business Review titled “The Science Behind the Smile” researchers have found that things like a new house, a new spouse or even money can make you happy…Though, not much and not for long.

The journey to true happiness certainly begins within. It starts with loving yourself, actually. As strange as that may sound, if you don’t do this, you can’t be happy with anything or anyone else, and your smile will need greasing to move from a frown to a smile the next time you try.

Here are some ways to work on loving yourself bringing more happiness into your life, and perpetual smiles for your face. Remember, it takes more effort to frown than to smile, so why not take the easy way out. Try smiling at strangers, at work, at home, for a whole day, and see the affects of your smile. It’s contagious, the people around you will start smiling too. Take the challenge and smile, I dare you!

Well hello. This is my very first post for thought-bubbles. It is nice to meet your acquaintance!

self-expression & creativity is why “we”  as in the collective blog universe even exists, which is why thought-bubbles has become my own personal living journal page. there are some things you should know about me. i  choose to see the beauty in life, even though sometimes it can get pretty ugly, taking the good from the bad, thought it ain’t always an easy task. i like to speak my mind, and i’m sure some may not agree with my viewpoints but it’s just my opinion, you are certainly free to have your own. :)

 

since this is a special post, i thought i would dedicate it to a very special person who impacted my life so much, causing me to follow my heart, be happy, creative and just be me. no longer gracing this earth, my friend corey always encouraged me to be artistic and express myself, thus here we are at thought-bubbles.

 

he gave me some perspective and taught me to see life differently. this poem i wrote to enlighten others to do the same. maybe this could help you in some way, sure hope it does. happy reading!
